When Montana is referred to as the “Headwaters to a Continent”, reference is given to the important role that water plays in the state and to much of North America. Water that originates from Montana’s Triple Divide Peak in Glacier National Park eventually flows across the continent to the Pacific Ocean, Husdon Bay, and the Gulf of Mexico. Our home state’s water is highly valuable to our citizens and to many downstream users.
Management of this valuable resource is the responsibility of all Montanans. Governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations and citizens work to maintain the water quality and manage the quantity of water in our lakes, rivers and streams. Every citizen has a stake in guarding the health of the state’s water. Montana Watercourse provides services, information, and resources to help Montanan’s in these efforts.
